SEPTEMBER 19

Gary has had another hard day. Started out early this morning throwing up and he hasn't been able to keep things down since. The nurse says it is probably due to the fluid that is building up in his abdomen. The levels of creatinine stayed the same as yesterday (2.3) so at least they did not increase again, but should be at .6. The level of Methotrexate decreased almost by half! Down from 7.2 to 3.5. So that was very encouraging. As I said earlier, the hospital will not release him until the MTX levels are .01. Ultrasound of kidneys showed no blockage and xray of lungs showed no fluid build up on them. He has been able to be off the oxygen since this afternoon, but his levels are a little down so they put him back on for the night. The doctor said that the next treatment, they may lower the dosage somewhat, but stated that using the high doses of Methotrexate was the only thing that would work for this type of cancer, so hopefully Gary's body will adjust to it and they can continue as planned. Gary is a little discouraged today. He knew this was going to be a rough road, but thought it would take a few treatments before he would be feeling bad. We do appreciate everyone's prayer for him. He told me today as we were walking that he is humbled by the emails and phone calls that have come in expressing love and concern.
