We had an idea this would be the case and Gary knew the way he was feeling that there was not going to be a major change in the MRI. They will hydrate him 24 hours, before administering the MTX, as the last two treatments and increase the rescue drug as well, so we are hopeful that his kidneys will hold out. Appreciate your prayers for Gary.

JANUARY 27
Today I celebrated my 50th birthday. Whew! Felt good to get that out in the open. *smile* My family and friends helped make it a special day by all the cards, facebook comments and phone calls. Even though we tried to celebrate, there was still a cloud over us as Gary felt too bad to be able to do much. I fixed a steak dinner in place of going out and Sandra cleaned up the kitchen afterwards. Can't beat that! Pray for Gary.... his pain levels are increasing each day. I was hoping that these last treatments would take care of that for him. Hard to see him being in such pain.

His levels were still not below .1 but close enough that they went ahead and dismissed him but he will need to take the rescue drug Loucovorin in pill form for the rest of today and tomorrow to help get the rest of the MTX out of him.
The original schedule was to be back in the hospital on Tuesday for the next treatment, but they moved it back to Friday, the 30th to give Gary a week out of the hospital. Thank you for your prayers!

Finally, Gary's Methotrexate levels dropped a significant amount. Still not enough to leave the hospital today, but we are pretty sure that his levels will be under .1 tomorrow, and he will be dismissed. Thank you for your prayers. We appreciate it!

JANUARY 8
Tonight, I received a phone call from a dear lady in Cheyenne, Wyoming! Complete stranger! She had received an email about Gary from her pastor's wife, who received it from another pastor's wife in Colorado, who had received it from someone else! She was just calling to let us know that she would be praying for Gary. That wasn't the only phone call today. We received one from a pastor's wife who has known Gary's parents for years and from a dear Pastor friend in Oklahoma. It is just overwhelming to think that so many are praying for Gary and our family. We are so grateful!

"For this cause, I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen."

FAMILY, FRIENDS and PRAYER
Friday, our good friend, Tim Berns also flew up to see Gary. Tim has visited us in the Philippines several times, and has a love for our children in the feeding centers. He will be making another trip in a few weeks, promising to give all my kids hugs from me!This was just the boost of encouragement Gary and I needed. We are so thankful for family and friends. I want everyone of you to know that we appreciate so much the prayers! This week, I was talking to the nurse our insurance company has assigned to us. She mentioned that she saw this blog and that we have alot of support. I told her that if Gary does not make it through this, it will not be for lack of prayer! Thank you once again!
JANUARY 3
Well, the doctors arrived and the one that had told us on Wednesday that we could expect 5 days of excitement, said "You haven't been very exciting!" *smile*
Gary's MTX this morning was at .06 so he can go home! Woo hoo! We are just stunned! The doctors are stunned! They will let our primary doctor make the decision of how to approach the next treatment, as far as giving the full dose of Methotrexate.
This does not mean that he is out of danger as far as the cancer is concerned, but that they may be able to use higher doses of the Methotrexate next time in order to kill the cancer. Words just seem so inadequate to express our deep gratitude for all who spent time praying at all hours for Gary! We are so appreciative. Thank you.

JANUARY 2
The doctors are still closely monitoring his creatinine levels and they have stayed at .6 today. This evening was the first blood draw to start monitoring the Methotrexate levels. We still have not received word from the lab on that, so will have to wait until tomorrow to update everyone because I am headed for bed. *tired smile*
Gary had a full day visiting with his family, and this evening, a good friend of ours, Tim Berns, flew in to see him as well.
At this point, we are starting to allow ourselves to breath a sigh of relief believing that Gary will not have problems with his kidneys. I appreciate so much your prayers and for taking the time to write comments or emails to let me know your are praying. Every morning, when I arrive at the hospital, Gary will ask who wrote. It really encourages him and we are grateful!

JANUARY 1
The team of doctors were all grinning from ear to ear too. As I came to the room, one of our nurses looked up and said, "He's doing good!" *smile*
Tonight and tomorrow will give us an indication if he will get through this treatment without any problems, so please keep praying.
We have heard from Africa, Canada, Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Austria, Bolivia, and all over the States. Young and old, friends, relatives, many we have never met and may never meet in this life time, assuring us of prayers going up. How wonderful it is to be in the Family of God!

DECEMBER 31
The team of doctors came in this morning to check Gary out, and went over again the plan for the treatment. They are all well aware of what has happened in the past with the Methotrexate (MTX) and were explaining all the steps they were going to do, to hopefully prevent it from happening this time. The doctor then said, "But, to be honest, I think we can expect 5 days of excitement." *sigh*
Gary started the MTX at 7pm. In 24 hours, they will administer the rescue drug. This is when it gets critical. Pray the rescue drug will do it's job in getting the MTX out of him before it crystalizes in his kidneys and starts shutting them down.
Again, I want to express our appreciation for your prayers. The emails and comments have been very comforting to not only Gary, but to myself.
THANK YOU!
I read several off to Gary last night before leaving the hospital, then again this morning. I even went through and mentioned all 204 names that have joined the group "It is well with my Soul" on Facebook. All the notes of love and prayer really encouraged him. I know he felt God's presence during the night and the prayers of so many around the world. I can just imagine how the "sound waves" of all those voices travelling toward heaven must have pleased God.
Thank you for praying for the safe travel of our children and inlaws. Brian and his wife, Kristina made it to Georgia before midnight last night and our inlaws with our daughter Becky, arrived here safely at 2am. Please continue to pray for my sister and her husband (Gary's brother) as they travel from Oklahoma today as well.
Gary has been asleep most of yesterday and today due to the anti nausea drug they give him. He is ready to start the MTX treatment as soon as his ph levels are where they need to be. I will update again at the end of the day. Just wanted to express my appreciation for all who took the time, to let us know they were praying. I have alot of people on my list to give a hug to, the next time I see them face to face!
